CAPMAS just released the 2016 annual inflation rates, showing how much each category of goods in Egypt has been affected, and the new figures are the highest the country has experienced since August 2008.
 
State-run statistic agency CAPMAS president Abu Bakr Al-Gindy declared on Tuesday that monthly inflation has risen to 3.4% in December 2016 in comparison to November, according to Al-Masry Al-Youm. He also declared that annually speaking, inflation has risen to 24.3% in December 2016 compared to December 2015. This hike in the inflation rate is Egypt's biggest since August 2008.

The annual inflation figure was broken down to show the percentage of price increases experienced per category of goods, all in comparison to December 2015:

Food and beverages: 29.3%

Cigarettes: 25.6%

Furniture and equipment: 25.4%

Healthcare: 33.3%

Transportation: 22.8%

Hotels and restaurants: 28.3%
